Blackhawks get Saad back in trade with Blue Jackets”

Bowman traded forwards Panarin and Tyler Motte and Chicago's sixth-round selection in this weekend's National Hockey League draft to Columbus for Saad, goaltender Anton Forsberg and a fifth-round draft pick next year. He became a restricted free agent after the title run in 2015, and Bowman traded the rugged winger to the Blue Jackets when the team was unable to hammer out a new deal with the Pittsburgh native. In his rookie season following his jump from the KHL to the NHL, Panarin scored 30 goals and 77 points in 80 games en route to the 2016 Calder Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the league's top rookie. Motte, 22, scored four goals and three assists in 33 games for the Blackhawks previous year in his rookie season. In exchange for Artemi Panarin, Chicago is bringing Brandon Saad back from Columbus. Saad is also signed to a deal that will pay him $6 million per season, though his deal lasts for four years rather than Panarin's two - a factor that might have been taken into consideration when making the swap for the Blackhawks. He now heads to Arizona in exchange for young defensemen Connor Murphy and Laurent Dauphin.

The Chicago Blackhawks made a pair of blockbuster trades Friday, saying farewell to one Stanley Cup Champion and welcoming back another.
