SOLID: 211000 Jobs Created in April, Unemployment Falls to 4.4%

The economy added 211,000 jobs last month.

Manufacturing added 6,000 jobs in April, losing 3,000 in durable goods manufacturing and adding 9,000 in nondurable goods.

According to the report, the segments that saw job gains are health care and social assistance, leisure and hospitality, mining, and financial activities.

Economists agree that March's slump was related primarily to the weather - which held up construction jobs - but also the timing of Easter and Passover this year. The unemployment rate had been expected to tick up to 4.6%.

Matt Harvey rejoins Mets, apologizes for skipping game
Then they suspended him for three games without pay - costing him $84,016 - causing him to miss a start on Sunday afternoon. When asked if the text was supportive of Harvey or more challenging in tone, Collins replied, "Both".

The unemployment rate dropped to 4.4%, its lowest level since May 2007.

The unemployment rate declined to 6.5% from 6.7% which was the lowest rate since October 2008 and compared with market expectations for the rate to be unchanged on the month. In April, the average hourly pay increased to $26.19, marking a 2.5 percent rise compared to past year, but a slightly slower growth rate than in previous months.

However, BMO's chief economist, Douglas Porter, noted that even with the slowing growth in the country, "full-time employment is still up 1.3% from a year ago, a solid tally by any measure". "The Fed will respond accordingly". Job gains in the sector during April were led by the courier, warehousing and air transportation segments, which grew employment by 3,200, 2,500 and 500 jobs, respectively, from the previous month.

The jobs gain announced today compares with a forecast in a Bloomberg survey of economists of a 190,000 increase.

Russia: Syria deal bans US-led coalition aircraft
Turkey's Foreign Ministry said the agreement to create safe zones will cover all of Idlib province, as well as parts of Aleppo, Latakia and Homs.

Government payrolls jumped 17,000 last month as an increase in hiring by local governments offset a decline in federal government employment. The total number of workers in Ottawa-Gatineau dipped slightly to 727,100, down from 729,300 a month earlier.

The only weak point was a drop from 63.0 to 62.9 in the labor force participation rate, leaving the recovery just short of the finish line. "If it's easier for them to get a job outside their company, they're more likely to push for higher wages".

The Fed increased its benchmark interest rate a quarter of a point during its March 14 meeting, which was the second such increase in three months.
