Moors Murderer Ian Brady dies aged 79 following illness”

Moors Murderer Ian Brady, who tortured and killed five children with Myra Hindley in crimes that shocked the nation, has died.

Brady was found guilty of snatching and killing 12-year-old John Kilbride, Edward Evans, 17, Lesley Ann Downey, 10, while Hindley was convicted of murdering Downey and Evans and shielding her lover in the third case. Hindley died in prison in 2002.

Although the cause of the serial killer's death has not been confirmed, he is said to have been receiving 24-hour care from nurses in recent weeks.

Four of their victims were found buried in Saddleworth Moor.

Lesley Ann Downey was abducted by the murderers from a fairground on December 26, 1964 - the day after Christmas Day.

This is a developing story.

Mr Kilbride said he hopes the killer "rots in hell".

Hindley was obsessed with Brady and he grew to love the idea of being worshipped and adored and chose to include her in his plans for a crime spree.

Hindley recognised Pauline as a friend of her younger sister Maureen, but lured her into the van by asking if Pauline would help her find an expensive missing glove on Saddleworth Moor.

Health officials said Brady died at a high-security psychiatric hospital in northwestern England.

Despite numerous appeals to Brady, Keith's body was never located, and the murderer never revealed where he was buried.

Brady has never revealed the location of the remains of Keith Benner, who was 12 when he was killed.

The pair summoned Hindley's brother-in-law, David Smith, to the house on a false pretext and forced him to watch as Brady murdered Edward.

NHS cyber attack: What is Wanna Decryptor and how does it work?
The attack came as Spain's National Cryptologic Center announced a "massive ransomware attack" against Spanish companies. Portugal Telecom was hit on Friday by a cyber attack but no services were impacted, a spokeswoman for the company said.

Keith died after leaving his home in Chorlton-on-Medlock in Manchester on June 16 1964.

In the letters he claimed he was still enjoying nostalgic trips to the Gorbals in 1965, just before he and Hindley were arrested for the murders.

Her last moments were recorded on a harrowing 16-minute, 21-second audio tape.

John Stalker, former deputy chief constable of Greater Manchester, said: "Nothing in criminal behaviour before or since has penetrated my heart with quite the same paralysing intensity". After they lured Evans away from a gay bar, Brady attacked him with an ax, smothered him with a cushion and bound him with an electrical cable.

Brady, 79, was a patient at Ashworth Hospital in Merseyside where he was being force-fed in hospital. There will only ever be another search if there's fresh evidence.

In 1987 Brady finally confessed to the murders of Pauline Reade and Keith Bennett but he was never tried for the crimes.
