Freed Nigerian schoolgirls to meet families after 3 years”

Dozens of Nigerian schoolgirls have been reunited with their families more than three years after they were kidnapped by Boko Haram extremists.

One beaming father picked his daughter up and swung her around in the air.

A Nigerian army vehicle patrols in the town of Banki in northeastern Nigeria on April 26, 2017.

The release of the 82 schoolgirls comes after a group of 21 was released in October.

"All of us had lost hope, we thought the girls would not be returned". "Because one Chibok girl matters to all Chibok people", he said. A government list of names circulated, and parents were asked to confirm the freed girls' identities through photos.

"Authorities should clarify to families whether the rescued girls are being held in preventive detention or as criminal suspects", Human Rights Watch said in a statement earlier this month.

"In addition, the troops recovered 1 AK-47 Rifle with registration number 565231515, an AK-47 Rifle Magazine, 2 Boko Haram terrorist flags, 4 Motorcycles, 2 Solar Panels, 2 already prepared IEDs, Detonating cords and other explosive making components".

It would be recalled that the Nigerian Air Force, in a recent attack, frustrated attempts by the Boko Haram Terrorists to regroup in the Sambisa general area.

Boko Haram has used kidnapping as a weapon of war, seizing hundreds of women and young girls in its quest to create an Islamic state in northeast Nigeria.

It was the largest liberation of hostages since 276 Chibok schoolgirls were abducted from their boarding school in 2014. Of the 219 who did not manage to flee, 106 have either been released or found.

According to the army, the terrorists had a gun battle with troops in Chikun Gudu, Tumbuma Karami and Tumbuma Baba areas of the Lake Chad, during which they were shot dead, while others escaped with bullet injuries. Nigeria's government has acknowledged negotiating with Boko Haram for their release, with mediation help from the Swiss government and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
