Absentee ballot, recount results trickle in across B.C. following tight election

Absentee ballot, recount results trickle in across B.C. following tight election”

According to the latest Elections BC update, Jim Benninger has pulled ahead in the Vancouver Island riding with 10,098 votes, just three more than his NDP rival, Ronna-Rae Leonard.

The counting of absentee ballots is continuing, with the next update from Elections B.C. expected Wednesday morning. Ballots collected by Elections B.C. mobile teams, in hospitals, remote work camps and one that went door-to-door in an area isolated by a landslide in the Shuswap, are also not included in election night vote counts. Nearly 180,000 absentee votes are being tallied provincewide as part of the agency's final count, which must be completed on Wednesday. Following the May 9 election, the riding count stood at 43 for the Liberals, 41 for the NDP and three for the Green Party.

Across the province, the Liberals' lead over the NDP has dropped to 2,612 votes, or 0.13 per cent of the ballots. A one-seat gain for the B.C. Liberals would give them a majority.

Comey believes Trump was trying to influence him
President Trump has been narrowing a short list and interviewing candidates to replace Comey, whom Trump fired on May 9. He said the post-election scrutiny was making it hard to work with Russian Federation .

There are still a few very close races that could change the election night seat count, either reducing the two major parties to a tie - or handing the BC Liberals a majority.

With the results in some ridings so tight, Andrew Watson with Elections BC explains what would trigger a by-election.

At this point, however, no completed count meets that threshold.

She even smirked when the judges' associate revealed one of the jury contestants was, indeed, a magazine editor. Her dreams were shattered when Bauer Media published "grubby articles " that defamed her, he said.

If Leonard wins and a judicial recount is not triggered, B.C. will see its first minority government in six decades.

In Richmond-Queensborough, the Liberals lead shrunk to 101 from 116 over the NDP.

Carole James, a former NDP leader, and Sonia Furstenau, a newly elected member of the legislature for the Greens, accepted the petition asking the two parties to co-operate.

That plan still led to a messy, one-day special session that almost derailed over disagreements on environmental spending. Late Friday morning, House Speaker Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, said they had placed a "cone of silence" on their discussions.

In Maple Ridge-Mission, the NDP lead increased to 190 from 166 over the Liberals.
