World's oldest person dies

Emma Morano blows candles in the day of her birthday in Verbania, Italy, Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016.

Emma Morano, at 117 the world's oldest person who is also believed to have been the last surviving person born in the 1800s, died Saturday at her home in northern Italy, her physician said.

Carlo Bava, Morano's doctor for decades, told the AP he last visited with the 117-year-old on Friday and "she thanked me and held my hand" as she usually did.

He said she had been her usual chatterbox self until a few weeks ago.

Hamilton relishes three-way battle after Bottas pole
At the halfway mark of the 60-minute session, Toro Rosso pairing Daniil Kvyat and Carlos Sainz Jr held first and second place. During P2, Hamilton had to take evasive action to avoid hitting Nico Hulkenberg's slow-moving Renault on a corner.

Born in 1899, Morano lived through two world wars and 20 USA presidents.

Bava, her doctor for 27 years, said Morano rarely ate vegetables or fruit.

In 1900, when Violet Brown was born, Jamaica was part of the British West Indies, so her records are from the British government, in Queen Victoria's time. She lost a boyfriend in the First World War, and then married a quite abusive man, whom she did not love, Xinhua news agency cited local media.

"She had an extraordinary life, and we will always remember her strength to help us move forward in life", Silvia Marchionini said. Morano was unable to attend as she had been bed-bound for four years at the time, instead receiving visitors at her home.

Community Easter Egg Hunt
Photos will be taken with the Easter Bunny by FeVa Fotos for a small donation of $5.00, to help with Kiwanis children's projects. Lots of candy and even a few golden eggs will be available for each age group of kids participating.

The world's oldest person has today died at the age of 117.

"When I first knew her she used to eat three eggs a day".

She spent most of her life without a partner after leaving her violent husband in 1938.

"He told me, "Either you agree to marry me or I will kill you, '" Morano said". But previous year Rosi Santoni, one of the relatives who helped look after her, said she had plenty of family to care for her and had many friends in the town. Her only child died in infancy and Morano supported herself working in a factory producing jute sacks.
