Veteran kills wife at California school after making threats”

The community is looking to heal in the face of a tragic school shooting that claimed the lives of a dedicated teacher and a young boy in San Bernardino, California.

Cedric Anderson shot and killed his wife, Karen Smith, a special education teacher at the school as well as injuring two other students who were nearby, before turning the gun on himself.

Williams syndrome is a genetic condition characterized by a series of medical problems, including heart disease, developmental delays, learning disabilities, kidney issues and hypertension. Burguan said it appeared Anderson was trying to contact his wife to convince her to return home, but she resisted.

"He is in stable condition", San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan. Anderson was reportedly allowed access to the school when he said he was dropping something off at Smith's classroom. "And today is the day for that", said Bishop Gerald Barnes, of the Diocese of San Bernardino.

"He's up and watching cartoons", said San Bernardino City Unified Superintendent Dale Marsden.A memorial with candles, flowers and teddy bears was started at the elementary school.

Investigators have also seized electronics, including Smith and Anderson's cell phones, Burguan said, and will attempt to piece together their communications in the days and hours leading up to the fatal attack.

Uber's revenue hits $6.5b in 2016, still has large loss
Even its CEO, Travis Kalanick, found himself in a spot after he was videotaped arguing with an Uber driver over falling incomes. For the final quarter of 2016, gross bookings increased 28 percent from the previous quarter, to $6.9 billion.

Smith resisted moving back in with Anderson, but "didn't necessarily take those threats serious", Burguan said.

Burguan said that at the time of the shooting there were 15 students from grades one through four in the special needs classroom, along with two adult aides.

The two students who were struck by gunfire were standing behind Smith, the police chief said.

The young boy was not in school Monday but when Valles heard the shooting was in Smith's classroom, she said she nearly passed out.

Marsden said Tuesday that he had met with the Martinez family following the shooting.

Police said Anderson was able to enter the school by simply telling the front office staff he had something to drop off for his wife. On the site, his loved ones call Jonathan their "family angel".

The mother said she didn't bring her son to the candlelight vigil. She told authorities he then picked up a set of keys on the coffee table and threw them at her, just missing her and hitting the wall.

Children with the syndrome tend to have striking verbal abilities and an affinity for music, according to Marsden. "I can't wait to see a lot of the kids, all of them", Gordon, 41, told The Associated Press.

"Unlike disorders that can make connecting with your child hard, children with Williams syndrome tend to be social, friendly and endearing", Marsden said.

Smith's mother, Irma Sykes, said her daughter had been friends with Anderson for about four years before they got married.

He said Anderson had faced a weapons charge, and those involving domestic violence and theft from 1982 to 2013.
