US free trade deal with South Korea falling short, Pence warns”

Vice President Mike Pence sent another clear warning to North Korea on Wednesday, telling personnel aboard a Japan-based US aircraft carrier that "all options are on the table" when dealing with the Stalinist regime.

Pence was speaking to hundreds of USA and Japanese sailors from the deck of the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier in the Yokosuka naval base in Tokyo Bay, Japan.

Pence has meetings scheduled with South Korea's acting president and the speaker of the national legislature, and will visit Japan, Indonesia and Australia before returning to the United States.

THE VICE PRESIDENT: I know President Trump is very hopeful that China will take actions necessary to bring about a change in policy in North Korea, an abandonment of its nuclear program and its ballistic missile program.

After meetings with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and other leaders, Mr Pence told reporters that President Donald Trump was confident that economic and diplomatic pressure has a chance of compelling North Korea to cooperate.

He said that under President Donald Trump, the US will stand up to its enemies with its allies. And the vice president believes American voters will be able to pinpoint accomplishments as it reflects on the administration's first 100 days.

China expressed concern on April 19 over comments made by North Korean officials warning of further missile tests and the possibility of nuclear war.

Mattis credited China with trying to help get the North Korea situation "under control" with the goal of denuclearizing the peninsula. And on Monday, he traveled to the tense Demilitarized Zone dividing North and South Korea, where he warned North Korea's leaders that after years of testing the US and South Korea with its nuclear ambitions, "the era of strategic patience is over".

He also said, "We are with you 100 percent", adding that the USA always seeks peace.

South Korea moved to downplay Pence's remarks, with a government official in charge of trade matters noting the comments were directed at an audience of US business executives.

As the White House works to "maximize pressure" on North Korea, one of the ways it is hoping to turn up the heat is by deploying a high-powered anti-missile defense system to the region.

After talks with Japan's deputy prime minister, Taro Aso, Pence said the US would work with Japan, China and other nations to get Pyongyang to give up its atomic weapons program. "We all want to avoid".

Vice President Mike Pence acknowledged Wednesday that some of the Trump administration's promises have not yet come to fruition, but he is confident that efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act will be fruitful.

The weapon, a tactical ship-to-ground guided missile, will enhance South Korea's ability to strike North Korea's critical military facilities in the event of a crisis on the peninsula.
