Lawsuit: Man deported after being part of protection program

Lawsuit: Man deported after being part of protection program”

The DACA policy, launched by the Obama administration in 2012, protects persons - often called "DREAMers" - brought into the US during their youth from deportation and provides them with the right to work legally.

The Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services didn't immediately respond to NewsHour requests for comment.

Montes' suit says he came to this country when he was 9 years old, and had been visiting a friend in Calexico, Calif., in mid-February and walking toward a taxi stand when he was approached by an officer from U.S. Customs and Border Protection who asked him for identification.

He came to the USA when he was 9 years old and since 2014 has been able to legally live and work in the country under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program, his attorneys said. Montes was not carrying his ID, which would have proved his DACA status, and agents refused to let Montes retrieve it, according to the report.

China, US working on 'North Korea problem'
Pence will be diving into a tense standoff along the Korean Peninsula with visits to South Korea and Japan beginning Sunday. Trump turned to Twitter over the weekend to underscore the key importance of cooperation with China on the Korean problem.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer approached him and asked for identification, but Montes had left his wallet in a friend's auto.

Even so, DACA enrollees are being targeted by immigration authorities. At least 10 are in federal custody, according to United We Dream, an advocacy organization made up of DACA enrollees and other young immigrants. According to USA Today, Montes climbed the border fence into the US and was questioned and sent back again to Mexico.

In Jackson, Mississippi, a young woman said she was detained after speaking at an immigration press conference. According to USA Today, Montes had carelessly left those documents in someone else's vehicle. He then worked two years picking crops in California and Arizona. "No one should have to file a lawsuit to find out what happened to them".

Trump has been evasive regarding Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III's dislike of DACA.

Homeland Security said Montes' criminal record includes a theft conviction for which he received probation.

Thunder's Westbrook focused on playoffs, not historic season
Anthony isn't an All-NBA-level talent anymore, but he still has a massive contract, with two years and $53 million remaining. While Anthony can confound Jackson by refusing to leave, Porzingis could be the one to topple Jackson by refusing to stay.

He suffered a traumatic brain injury as a child that left him with learning disabilities that meant a constant struggle to keep up in school and everyday conversations, according to Hincapié.

"Juan Manuel was funneled across the border without so much as a piece of paper to explain why or how", said Nora A. Preciado, a staff attorney at the Los Angeles-based National Immigration Law Center.

Montes has a record: three traffic violations and a shoplifting charge. He was also not given copies of the documents he signed, the lawsuit states. "I liked it there more than here".

Will Trump Target Dreamers with DACA Repeal?

"They detained me, they took me to a center, they asked me a lot of questions, and I signed a lot of papers", he said. Rather than continuing his education in the U.S., where he was studying welding at community college, Montes now works at a gas station and tortilla mill, dreaming of the day he can come home.

Damian Lillard Predicts Major UPSET vs Warriors in NBA Playoffs
Allen Crabbe is dealing with a foot injury and Damian Lillard has a right foot strain that caused them each to miss recent games. Somehow, the Warriors' 67-win season felt underwhelming coming off last year's National Basketball Association record 73 wins.
