Google Earth gets revival with tools for exploration”

First up, Google Earth is now available on the Web, and you won't require a standalone app to use it. While some of the places I visited were basic projections of the traditional map, the more "popular" the site the more likely it is to have a full higher res 3D view. You'll even be treated to clips from Planet Earth II.

Finally, a new 3D button will allow you to see a 3D depiction of any destination on Google Earth.

Google Earth has been reborn. It's been five years since Google released a new version of this program, but with the latest version - which took two years to make - the search giant is hoping to rekindle interest for the platform. Google says they're introducing something called Voyager which will bring "a showcase of interactive guided tours" to users.

The jersey was so heavy, I couldn't believe people used to wear it playing baseball, let alone on a sizzling hot August afternoon. This will be the first statue at Dodger Stadium, which opened in 1962 and has been home to four World Series champions.

Google has also added Knowledge Cards to Earth, allowing you to get more information about the places you're interested in. While that sounds good on first glance, as you may run Google Earth now without having to install software or an application first, the new version is limited to Google Chrome currently on the desktop. Teaming up with organisations like BBC and Sesame Street, Voyager will focus on storytelling, with 50 stories ready at launch Google plans to add more weekly. Take virtual treks to jungles, islands, the national parks of the USA, or Jane Goodall's Tanzania.

It's also brought in the classic Google "I'm feeling lucky" button, which randomly selects one of 20 000 locations for you to explore. Additionally, you'll now be also to share you favorite places with friends by sending a Postcard. Beyond learning more about the location you're now looking at, you can also use Knowledge Cards to find related places. You could use this to move around the Grand Canyon to see geological layers, or check out the 500-year-old Château de Chambord in the Loire Valley in France, Google suggests.

Get the new Google Earth now on the web in Chrome; on Android as it rolls out this week; and on iOS and other browsers in the near future.
