Ala. Gov. Resigns In Wake Of Sex Scandal, Ethics Charges”

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley resigned Monday, as a yearlong scandal stemming from his alleged extramarital affair mushroomed in recent days into a crisis that left him facing possible impeachment and felony criminal prosecution.

GOP leaders in the House and Senate called on Bentley to resign, as has the Alabama Republican Party's steering committee. He did not report the loan to the secretary of state until he filed his 2016 campaign summary in January.

At the heart of the matter is Bentley's relationship with a former staffer named Rebekah Mason.

The agreement also requires Bentley to repay the state almost $9,000 in misused funds, serve a year of probation, perform 100 hours of community service as a physician, and forfeit the more than $36,000 in his campaign fund.

Abe praises Trump's security commitment after call on Syria, North Korea
The comments were made by a Foreign Ministry official and carried by North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency on Sunday. Perhaps he told North Korea's ally it would be a good idea for their little despot to take a hike for the duration.

Ivey has held various state position since 1982 including state treasurer, a position on the Alabama Commission on Higher Education and the Alabama Development Office. Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey's office announced that she will be sworn-in as Alabama's governor at 6 p.m. After her announcement in 2009, she ultimately chose to join the race for Lt. Governor and won, defeating Jim Folsom, Jr. who was seeking an unprecedented fourth term in the office.

He agreed not to run for office again.

But the state Supreme Court made a decision to allow Alabama legislators to pursue impeachment hearings against Bentley, and calls for his resignation had been growing.

"The Ivey administration will be open, it will be transparent, and it will be honest", Ivey said during a short speech after her swearing in by the minister at her Montgomery Baptist church.

Mitt Romney eyes potential Utah Senate campaign
Utah's senior Republican senator, first elected in 1976, hasn't been definitive about his intentions yet. Friday, Hatch told CNN he regularly talks to Romney but said it is "early to talk about this stuff".

A person who has spoken to Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley says he plans to resign over allegations he covered up an affair with an aide.

Bentley, 74, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on Monday afternoon, charged with two misdemeanors.

Now, she's the first female governor of the state since Lurleen Wallace in 1986, but under largely different circumstances.

Bentley said in his statement that he no longer wanted to subject his family and staff "to the consequences that my past actions have brought upon them". Bentley threatened staffers who knew or whom he thought knew about the affair and sent law enforcement to recover the tapes or question those he thought might know about them. The governor's lawyers will respond to those accusations later in the week. He was removed from office and is now serving a prison sentence for conspiring to sell an appointment to President Barack Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat. It also corrects that Bentley lawyer Ross Garber represented former Gov. Mark Sanford of SC and Gov. John Rowland of CT during impeachment proceedings, not Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Dianne Bentley had secretly recorded her husband by leaving her phone on while she went for a walk. Sharman says the governor's former wife turned over others.
