Ellwood lost his brother Jon in the Bali terror attack in October 2002 which killed 202 people including 27 Britons. The officer's identity has not yet been released.

Ellwood, a junior minister in the foreign office, tried to resuscitate a police officer stabbed to death in the attack on Britain's parliament.
