Tusk pledges to save Poland from European Union "isolation"

Tusk pledges to save Poland from European Union

Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar will join other EU leaders for a European Council meeting in Brussels on Thursday.

Jarosław Kaczyński (C) is the leader of the ruling party in Poland.

Szydlo made the comments after Donald Tusk, her compatriot but political foe, was given a second term to chair the European Union summits by all the other 27 European Union states despite Poland's objections. Szydlo went so far as to say Tusk could not be voted in without Polish support.

Tusk's first term expires in May and he enjoys the comfortable backing of most EU states to be reappointed for another 2-1/2 years as president of the European Council, responsible for chairing summits of EU leaders.

Dicks Sporting Goods Inc (NYSE:DKS): Analyst's Estimations
Dick's Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS ) reports comparable sales 5.0% in Q4 to top the consensus estimate of analysts for a 4.5% gain. According to the chain's latest 10-K filing, Nike represented 20 percent of Dick's inventory in the year ended January 30, 2016.

British MEP Syed Kamall, leader of the European Conservatives and Reformists group in the European Parliament, said "Recent referendum results in the UK, Netherlands, Italy, Hungary and Denmark have shown a loss of faith in the EU".

Warsaw argued that the decision should be delayed.

The leaders are also at odds over the contents of a declaration they hope to make on the future at a summit in Rome later this month marking the EU's 60th birthday.

Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte told press on Thursday evening that there were different legal formats by which the member states could formally confirm the decisions taken.

Elderly twin sisters die amid frigid weekend temperatures
They were stranded outside overnight, mere steps away from one of their homes, in temperatures that fell to 13 degrees Fahrenheit. Their younger sister also lived in Barrington, but not as close as the twins lived to each other.

"Tusk has a very strong position", an European Union official told AFP, as Poland has no veto in the decision and is likely to be supported only by Hungary, led by the eurosceptic Viktor Orban.

Poland's government wants a Polish center-right European lawmaker, Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, to replace Tusk, whose term ends May 31.

The president is elected by the European Council by a qualified majority, which means that no single country can veto it.

Tusk, a former prime minister, tweeted his thanks for the support.

China's Defense Budget to Go Up About 7% in 2017
It would mark a 10% rise than the previous year, if his budget plan is approved by the US Congress. Trump has proposed to increase spending by $54 billion, a total closing in close to $600 billion.

"The item is on the agenda, so I think that usually when an item is on the agenda one has to decide on that item", Muscat said. But Mr Tusk is still expected to get enough support to keep his post. That period coincides with the expected two-year Brexit talks on United Kingdom withdrawal from the EU.
