Trump Blasts Release of 2005 Tax Form, Reporter's Account”

The acknowledgement came shortly before MSNBC host Rachel Maddow reported on two pages of Trump's 2005 tax forms on her Tuesday night show.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump earned $153 million and paid $36.5 million in income taxes in 2005, paying a roughly 25 percent effective tax rate thanks to a tax he has since sought to eliminate, according to newly disclosed tax documents. David Cay Johnson, the respected United States reporter who claimed to have received the President's tax returns in the post from an unknown source, tweeted to say Trump paid a lower rate of AMT than the poorest 50 per cent of Americans.

But it is below the 27.4% that taxpayers earning 1 million dollars a year average, according to data from the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation.

He said that the copy of the tax return arrived in his mailbox after being sent by an unknown person and opened up the possibility that someone within Trump's inner circle made the leak for his or her own reasons.

I can't say that it was nothing, because we did learn a little bit from Donald Trump's two pages of tax returns from 12 years ago.

Strong-to-severe storms likely today
The week will begin with a series of severe weather events starting today and lasting through Wednesday. It appears areas south in I-40 will end up with a better chance for damaging storms on Tuesday.

Alternatively of course this was the most clever double cross Trump has pulled to date to make the media look shrill, by cherry picking a good year of returns and continuing to destabilize the public's trust in the media.

But mostly, it had its critics, including Jason Del Rey of Recode: "Maddow just convinced millions more to cut the cable cord".

The response seems odd considering that the president has pushed back against releasing his tax returns since the campaign, most recently on the grounds that only reporters care about seeing them and the American public just doesn't care.

"And that tax return would be used as a very important piece of evidence as to whether or not she should get citizenship", Maddow said.

The White House also angrily denounced Maddow for publicizing Trump's returns.

Google boycotts expose flaws of digital ads
The latest move came on the back of a number of advertisers in the European Union started boycotting YouTube since last week. Similarly a 2% decrease would affect only 0.3% of the company's overall revenues.

Neither Trump nor anybody in the administration have called for a probe into the returns' release.

Johnston, a veteran investigative journalist who has authored a book on Trump, said that he received the tax returns in the mail.

"It ought to give you pause that his explanations have never made any factual sense", Maddow said. The findings echoed a White House statement released prior to Maddow's show. "It is amusing to me that a president would spend this much energy and political capital to keep secret his finances and his taxes specifically and simultaneously would want to brag about how much money he made".

What we need to know from Donald Trump's tax return, something we did not learn in that Rachel Maddow special, is where the money comes from. Maddow was at the center of the political media universe Tuesday, March 14, 2017, with a story on President Donald Trump's tax returns. Maddow trumpeted the returns as "breaking news" on Twitter an hour before her 9pm show began, raising expectations that her report would reveal striking financial news about the president.
