Philadelphia Flyers Acquire Valtteri Filppula

Flyers general manager Ron Hextall has had a working relationship with Tampa GM Steve Yzerman in the past with the Braydon Coburn trade that brought them Radko Gudas.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have been trying to solidify their blue line depth with numerous injuries to account for - so they have acquired defenseman Mark Streit from the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Flyers announced that they will receive Tampa's fourth-round pick in the 2017 National Hockey League draft and a conditional 2017 seventh-round pick as part of the deal.

Through 49 games with the Flyers this season the veteran defender has posted five goals and 21 points along with 22 PIMs and 58 hits.

Filppula, 32, has seven goals and 27 assists in 59 games this season and has one year remaining on a contract that pays him $5 million annually.

Streit played three-plus seasons in Philadelphia.

At times, Filppula, a 6-foot, 196-pound Finn, centered Jonathan Drouin and Ryan Callahan this season.
