O'Rourke to Announce Cruz Challenge on Friday

O'Rourke to Announce Cruz Challenge on Fridayā€¯

O'Rourke took office in 2013 and ran unopposed in the last election. Representative Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) plans to declare his candidacy on Friday (31 March) for the Senate seat held by the former Republican presidential candidate.

"So you don't know until you do it", O'Rourke said. He has already filed papers to run for re-election, but his campaign spokeswoman declined comment on O'Rourke's plans.

Rep. Beto O'Rourke, an El Paso Democrat widely expected to launch a challenge to Republican Sen. Joaquin Castro of San Antonio is considering a bid. But an official from the Senate Republicans' campaign arm was quick to dismiss the challenge as not serious.

The state is still firmly conservative, and Texas has not elected a Democrat statewide since 1994.

The state must also hold an extra $10 million in reserve, in case the repairs end up being more expensive than anticipated. Former President Barack Obama signed off on the bipartisan funding bill shortly before leaving office a year ago .

O'Rourke, by contrast, has made plain since his insurgent initial race for the House in 2012 that he would impose term limits on himself.

Joaquin Castro, who like O'Rourke is serving in his third term, is also weighing a run against Cruz and has said he will make a decision next month.

The El Paso congressman has said that Castro's decision will have no impact on whether or not he decides to run and has called him a "good friend". Before he began working in Washington, he served as a member of the El Paso City Council from 2005-2011.

From a national perspective, the U.S. Senate race in Texas is an afterthought. Hardly anyone in state or national politics considers it realistic that the national party will heavily invest in this race. O'Rourke has a knack for harnessing the Internet.

There have been reports of Le Pen's closer ties with Russia , similar to that of Trump's relations with his Russian counterpart. The only French presidential candidate to meet with Putin, Le Pen is one of the front-runners in the French election.

The two congressmen live-streamed the road trip from Texas to Washington on Facebook Live, the Huffington Post reported.

Cruz's reelection for office follows him losing the Republican nomination for president to Donald Trump a year ago. Will Hurd earlier this month.

O'Rourke first floated the notion of a Senate campaign to The Texas Tribune just before Election Day last fall.
