Elderly twin sisters die amid frigid weekend temperatures”

Two sisters born the same day 97 years ago, died together over the weekend in Barrington, Rhode Island, news reports coming from Rhode Island are reporting.

Police say Martha Young Williams and Jean Young Haley lost their footing in the driveway of Ms Haley's house in the town of Barrington on Friday.

Police said Martha Williams and her twin sister Jean Haley were both found unresponsive Saturday morning outside a Rhode Island home after they both appeared to have tripped overnight.

Police said Williams apparently fell when she was getting ready to leave her sister, Haley's, house on Friday night.

"Ms Williams may have fallen in the driveway walking to her auto".

When Haley went to call for help, authorities say, she tripped on a rug in her garage.

A neighbor discovered the twin sisters in critical condition the next morning. They were stranded outside overnight, mere steps away from one of their homes, in temperatures that fell to 13 degrees Fahrenheit.

The pair had gone out for dinner with their 89-year-old sister the night they died. Their younger sister also lived in Barrington, but not as close as the twins lived to each other. They were pronounced dead at the hospital Saturday. Haley lived along the Providence River waterfront in Barrington for more than 60 years.

Authorities said foul play is not suspected. He was an Army captain in World World II and was described by the Journal as "instrumental in liberating concentration camps in Belgium".
