Usain Bolt losses Gold Medal, after teammate found doping

Arguably the greatest sprinter in Olympic history, Usain Bolt of Jamaica, had to return one of the gold medals he earned at the 2008 Olympic Games along with teammates Asafa Powell, Michael Frater and Nesta Carter.

His was one of 454 selected doping samples retested by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) past year, and has been found to contain the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine.

"Once the IOC's case and any appeal is concluded for the disqualification of Nesta Carter from the men's 4x100m event at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 for an anti-doping rule violation, the IAAF will take it to the Jamaican federation to determine Carter's sanction beyond this disqualification", the sport's ruling body said in a statement.

The team won in a then-world record of 37.10 seconds, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago and Japan, who could have their medals upgraded.

He joins Atlanta United on a "multi-year contract" via MLS' allocation process after discussions between the two parties. The Illinois native has been capped 53 times by the United States of America since making his debut in 2006.

Carter also won gold alongside Bolt in the 4x100m relays at the 2011, 2013 and 2015 World Championships and London 2012 Olympics, though there is no suggestion he had been taking banned substances before or during those competitions.

Bolt expressed that such a matter has been heart shattering for him as he has strived hard throughout the years to collect all these gold medals through hard work.

"Things happen in life, if it's confirmed or whatever and I need to give back my gold medal it's not a problem to me".

"Carter initially tested negative after the race in 2008".

More than 4,500 tests were carried out at those Games, with nine athletes caught cheating.
