With colder air moving over relatively warm Great Lakes, lake-effect snow could be heavier than normal especially early in the winter months, said Mike Halpert, deputy director, the Climate Prediction Center. The NOAA's official forecast for the season, released Thursday, says there are equal chances of above- or below-average temperature and precipitation for a large swath of the country, including New Jersey and most of Pennsylvania.

La Nina means more snow not only across OH but all of the Great Lakes.

If you have your fingers crossed for a warm, snow-free winter, you may be out of luck.

The outlook does not predict the timing or intensity of snowstorms or seasonal snowfall totals, but it is meant to allow preparation for what is likely to come in the next few months.
