Trump gifted Purple Heart, says he 'always wanted' one

Donald Trump is saluting a veteran who presented the Republican presidential nominee with his Purple Heart. "You have sacrificed nothing and no one", Khan said to Trump, holding aloft a copy of the Constitution that he suggested Trump read. A Trump supporter gave the candidate a replica of his Purple Heart medal, which Trump accepted by saying, "I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier".

The New York Times reported Monday that Trump received multiple student deferments and a medical deferment for a bone spur during the Vietnam War, successfully avoiding getting drafted into service. "No one who isn't entitled to the Purple Heart valor should have one", he said.

Khizir Khan, Humayun's father, declared at last week's Democratic National Convention that Trump had "sacrificed nothing", prompting the Republican nominee to claim he'd been "viciously attacked" and questioning why Khan's wife, Ghazala, didn't make her own remarks. Trump said the condition has since healed.

Details about Toya Wright's brother, Rudy Johnson, gunned down in New Orleans
Hip-hop star Trina wrote: "I'm praying for @ ToyaWright her mom and her family during this disgusting tragedy". The brothers were discovered inside a vehicle , shortly after midnight on Saturday in the city's 7th Ward.

The servicemember who gave Trump the Purple Heart was retired Lt. Col. Louis Dorfman, who was wounded in action in Iraq in 2007, according to Politico.

Trump added that he was "fortunate" not to have to serve in the Vietnam War, which Trump called "highly contested and unpopular".

Trump has never served in the military, and he described receiving the Purple Heart as "an honor". His campaign later said he suffered from the temporary malady in both.

The incident Trump referred to happened before an event in Ashburn, Virginia.

"My question for you, Mr. Pence, is: Time and time again, Trump has disrespected our nation's armed forces and veterans", she said, "and his disrespect for Mr. Khan and his family is just an example". He called Trump a "jagoff" - a popular demeaning slang term frequently used in western Pennsylvania. "What a attractive baby". "You can get that baby out of here", he said.
